DHL Global Forwarding China launches First Life Science and Healthcare Competence Center in Shanghai

Bolsters cold chain logistics capabilities to meet the needs of life science and healthcare customers

DHL, the world’s leading logistics company today announced the launch of “DHL Life Science and Healthcare Competence Center” located within its new 2,000 sq ft temperature control warehouse (15°C to 25°C) in Shanghai, Pudong International Airport.

The DHL Life Science and Competence Center will comprise of a core team of industry experts and be responsible for developing bespoke products and solutions and provide consultancy services to customers in China and North Asia Pacific.

The launch of the new 2,000 sq ft temperature control warehouse in Shanghai Pudong International Airport brings the total land area of DHL Global Forwarding’s temperature control facilities in Shanghai to 30,000 sq ft. Other temperature control facilities include two 2°C -8°C cool rooms in DHL Global Forwarding PVG Airport Warehouse, an 8,600 sq ft air-conditioned warehouse (22°C -28°C) at Waigaoqiao Bonded Area and a 19,400 sq ft air-conditioned warehouse (22°C -28°C) at Songjiang Jiuting Non-bonded Area.

The Life Science and Healthcare industry has been developing rapidly in recent years with China emerging as a market with the greatest growth potential. The Asia Pacific pharmaceutical market generated total revenues of US$118.3bn in 2008, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.6% for the period 2004-2008, from US$91.6bn to US$118.3bn. China’s pharmaceutical market grew the fastest with CAGR of 21.1% for the period 2004-2008 and is projected to grow further.[1]
