New Tools to Help Determine Tariff Classifications in the HTSUS

Determining the proper the tariff classifications for products can be an arduous task; however, new tools on the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) website can make the job easier. The USITC is inviting the Trade to use the new tools and provide them your comments.

The new tools are faster and more user-friendly the previous versions. Like earlier versions, it does traditional on-line look-ups in the HTSUS chapters, along with their Chapter and Section notes. It also has line item hyperlinks to U.S. Customs’ on-line ruling system (CROSS) for reading related binding rulings. In addition, there are other interesting new features, including:

  • More “Help” screens on various features
  • Acrobat Connect feature for on-line meetings
  • Searching by CAS numbers;
  • Line item jumps to the related chapter 99 temporary rates;
  • A Thesaurus feature that allows searches by modern names;
  • Much quicker navigation among Chapters;
  • Hyperlink to Chapter notes;
  • Better print functions.
