Issue 57, August 28, 2009
Further to our announcement from July 10th, 2009 about the General Rate Increase (GRI) from Asia to Canada, ocean carriers are now implementing a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS).
Due to some aggressive capacity withdrawal by the carriers and an increased activity of bookings from Asia, GRIs have been successfully implemented on August 1st.
PSS has now been announced by all carries. The amount is as follows:
USD 320.00 per 20’
USD 400.00 per 40’ standard
USD 450.00 per 40’ high cube
USD 510.00 per 45’
This surcharge will be effective during September.
These increases follow a turbulent year, where rate levels have fallen to unprecedented levels. This has created a very difficult financial situation for all steamship lines which has been recently reported by the media.
Your local sales representative will be contacting you to discuss forecasts for the next 2 months. We want to make sure that the increases have minimum impact on your business and that you continue to enjoy high quality service from DHL Global Forwarding.
Thank you for your support.
