Beijing Olympics DHL Logistics Contingency Plan Update

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is approaching. As committed in our Spotlight Issue 26 dated July 3, 2008, we would like to share with you the updated DHL Logistics China Contingency Plan dated July 16.

The major changes in last two weeks include:

  • P10- Dangerous Goods Restriction in Tianjin
  • P14- Ocean Dangerous Cargo Restriction in Qingdao
  • P15- New Customs Inspection Policy and Procedure at Beijing Airport
  • P23 –DHL Global Forwarding 24-hours Operation in Beijing

Dangerous Cargo Restriction Update

  • Tianjin is also to strictly ban the transportation of dangerous chemicals in the city between 7 am and 10 pm during the Games. (No written announcement yet)
  • Qingdao port authority has announced that Qingdao port will stop handling certain dangerous goods (including explosive & toxics cargo) from 25 Jul till 30 Sept 2008.

Customs Inspection in Beijing Airport

  • Dangerous goods need to be companied with certificates upon exportation.
  • All imported goods for Olympic game need to be unpacked for inspection.
  • Listed goods* will be unpacked if they fail to go through X-ray inspection machine with inconsistent product names against declaration.

DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) 24 Hours Operation in Beijing

  • Manpower support plan is ready for 24-hour operation at the warehouses, terminals and trucking team with DHL Global Forwarding Beijing.
